Are you plagued by arms that keep waving goodbye long after you’ve stopped? Don’t worry - you’re not alone!
Arm fat is one of the most common problem areas for a lot of people and it can be hard to know how to get rid of it.
So the question is, how can you lose arm fat? Well, let’s start with the bad news first.
The truth is the way the human body is designed you can’t just target one area where you want to lose fat. So you can’t just lose fat from your arms.
Instead, if you want to lose arm fat, you have to lower your overall body fat percentage. As you decrease the total amount of fat in your body the fat on your arms will also disappear.
What that means is that you can’t just exercise your arms and expect it to get rid of the fat on them.
Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t do arm exercises. In fact, if you do exercise your arms you will build muscle in them which will help them to look lean and toned when you start losing fat.
However, the majority of your effort should go into increasing your metabolism and lowering your overall body fat percentage. As you do, the fat will melt off your arms leaving them looking great.
So how do you increase your metabolism and lower your body fat percentage?
Start by building muscle. One of the best ways to give your metabolism a boost is to increase the amount of lean muscle that you have in your body.
A lot of people focus all their efforts on cardio exercises like running, walking or biking. However, along with cardio if you really want to turn your body into a fat burning machine you should add strength training exercises to build muscle.
Many women avoid strength training because they worry that building muscle is going to make them “bulk up” or get bigger. If you are a woman, the truth is that because of the way your body is designed you aren’t going to bulk up unless you are really trying to.
Instead, what will happen is that your muscle will become more toned and you will get that long, lean look.
Try lifting weights or doing exercises like squats and lunges to start building muscle.
Besides building muscle, there are a lot of simple changes you can make in your diet and lifestyle that will help increase the speed of your metabolism so you can burn more calories all the time (even while you are sleeping!).
Remember, the higher your metabolism the easier it is to lose weight and the more likely you are to keep it off. Check out How to Boost Your Metabolism for a complete, step-by-step guide.
You may also want to consider following a fat loss diet specifically designed to target fat. A lot of “starvation” type diets or low calorie diets cause you to lose muscle along with fat which slows your metabolism down and makes it harder to lose weight.
Fat loss diets, on the other hand, are designed to target fat specifically so you can lose the fat without slowing down your metabolism.
If you eat a healthy diet, add strength training to your workouts, and take other steps to boost your metabolism you should start to see the fat melt off your body and before you know it that stubborn arm fat will disappear and you’ll be ready to wear tank tops to show off your sleek, toned arms.
